Dr. Edgerton was born and raised in Goldsboro North Carolina. He attended North Carolina State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. He later obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. After serving in the United States Air Force for three years, he opened his dental practice in Creedmoor, North Carolina in 1978.
Dr. Edgerton has three children. Todd and his wife Laura, who live in Memphis, TN with grandchildren Mary Todd and Miller. Jennifer and her husband Donald, who live in Denver, CO. Jay and his wife Michelle, who live in Vail, CO with grandson Tucker.
When Dr. Edgeton is not working his favorite hobbies are fishing, boating, golf and supporting the Wolfpack.
